About

about%202_edited.jpg

I am a British Columbia artist living in Vancouver,  wandering in the beautiful mountains and forests and  snowshoeing the local hills.  I feel compelled to share the wonder and joy of hiking in these magical places, where the journey is the goal and my home is wherever my feet take me.

In the studio, my paintings are created from sketches,  photo reference and re-imagining of the scene. I go within myself to bring out the play of light and shadow, nuance of colour and tone, and memory of place. I paint to understand the forces that structure natural forms, and to portray movement and space.

Each painting is an adventure. I explore the alchemy of colour mixing and the process of composition, layering, and brushwork, while walking the fine line between depiction, suggestion and abstraction. There is always something to learn, new pathways to discover.

I attended the studio art program at Capilano College  and  graduated Emily Carr University with a BFA in 2002. Since then I have been working as a full time artist, exhibiting in galleries and shows. My work is held in private and corporate collections across North America. Please view the galleries  page to see a selection of my paintings.

As an active member of the arts community, I have held various board positions in arts organizations, and participate in the Eastside Culture Crawl. My work can be found  at North Vancouver Art Rental, and at the Federation Gallery in Vancouver. To arrange a studio visit, please  contact me.

As well as my fine art painting, I maintain a functional ceramic practice, which goes under the name of  Firebelly Clayworks.
